President Piñera signed the official proposal to extend postnatal leave: the benefit would increase from three to six months. However, the bill contradicts what
the president promised during his campaign, since the additional weeks would be subject to a subsidy cap of 30 UF (Unidad de Fomento, Chile's inflation-indexed unit of account), far below the existing cap of 64.7 UF for the first twelve weeks. Women with salaries above that amount will have the option of returning to work on
