There is no consensus on which factors most account for the low labor force participation of women in Chile. If the country has, on average, a female labor force participation rate constrained by cultural factors and preferences, there is no point in spending resources on policies to promote women's labor market integration. If one believes that individuals have the right to define their own lifestyles, one must accept that women retain their traditional role as caregiving mothers if they so wish. Continue reading...
