I fear that the performance of our economy may end up being quite mediocre. I sense that some well-intentioned actions or initiatives may seriously undermine the efficiency of the economic system. The market, with all its failures, is a remarkable instrument for allocating resources and can contribute effectively to building a more egalitarian society, insofar as all agents are able to compete on fair terms.
