The Chamber of Deputies recently approved a bill (Bulletin No. 10795-33) to introduce changes to the regulations governing the water and sanitation sector, with the aim of reducing the rates charged by companies providing drinking water, sewerage, and wastewater treatment services. While it is debatable from a technical standpoint whether such proposals are the most appropriate, experts have long agreed that amendments and clarifications are needed in the law governing the sector's rate-setting process.
