The Challenges of Intermittency in Non-Conventional Renewable Energy

In most countries around the world there is growing concern about the environmental impact of using fossil fuels to generate electricity. For this reason, various public policies have been implemented to promote the share of non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) in the energy mix. Chile has been no exception to this global trend. The public policies adopted have driven the increase in the share of NCRE in the system's installed capacity. For example, the share of these sources rose from 4% in 2010 to 13% in 2016.
