    Abstract

    A review of academic performance data on Chile's student population for the 2002–2012 period shows that the introduction of the State-Guaranteed Loan (Crédito con Aval del Estado, CAE) produced a reduction in dropout rates of between 10% and 25%, with the impact concentrated among students who began secondary school at schools whose average PSU (university admission test) score was below 475 points. Using data from the Casen survey (National Socioeconomic Characterization Survey), positive impacts in curbing teenage pregnancy are also found. Continue reading...
