At 12:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, the Quintero monitoring station recorded a copper dioxide (SO2) concentration of 1,326 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3), four times the maximum used to declare an environmental emergency. Even though the government did declare one and classes were suspended in the municipalities of Quintero and Puchuncaví, 75 people were treated at health care facilities in those municipalities with symptoms of poisoning.
